Answer

To guarantee you'll be able to take a reserve item out overnight,  place a hold for three hours before closing.

  • Sunday - Thursday: place a hold for 8:00 pm or later.
  • Friday and Saturday: place a hold for 6:00 pm or later.

You may still check the item out any time after 5:00 pm (Sun-Thurs) or 3:00 pm (Fri and Sat) if the item is on the shelf and has no other holds.

Each hold only guarantees a three-hour spot; consequently, placing a hold for 5:00 pm on a weeknight would allow someone else to place a hold for 8:00 pm or later.
