Does the SAIS Library accept donations? If not, where can I donate my used books?
The SAIS Library is not accepting book donations at this time.
Alternative sources to consider are:
Johns Hopkins University Sheridan Libraries (Baltimore campus) welcomes donations of library materials, printed works, manuscripts and other resources, supporting the research mission of the university.
Books for America, a non-profit near Dupont Circle that accepts donations, sells them in their bookstore (“Bookstore with a Purpose” at 1417 22nd St. NW), and uses the proceeds to purchase books for literacy programs, DC area schools, shelters, prisons, etc. If you have more than 50 titles and the books are in the DC area, they will pick up. More details about how to donate, what they will and will not accept, etc. is on their website.
AAFSW Art & Book Fair (Associates of the American Foreign Service Worldwide) accepts almost any books except textbooks. Contact 202-223-5796 or email@example.com. The proceeds go to scholarships for Foreign Service students, continuing education scholarships for spouses, Foreign Service projects such as the Foreign Service Youth Foundation and other community projects.
Montgomery County, MD Public Libraries Friends of the Libraries operates three ongoing used book stores – in Rockville, Wheaton, and Gaithersburg – that accept donations. Other DC area public library systems may have similar programs.
Another possibility, although more restrictive in terms of what they accept, is the World Bank Family Network Book Project. Contact info: (202) 473 8960 / firstname.lastname@example.org Open every Mon, Tue, Wed from 10:00am – 3:00pm
