Q. What access do SAIS students have to the ArcGIS program?

Answer

ArcGIS is a widely-used geospatial mapping program, which can be used with the researcher’s own data or with datasets (including census data and world-wide topographical maps). The software can be downloaded on a student's computer via directions on Eisenhower Library's GIS and Maps guide.

The software is also installed on selected workstations at:

  • Workstation # 1 in the SAIS Library
  • JHU Washington Libraries Resource Center (WLRC) on the 1st floor of BOB, 1717 Mass. Ave. WLRC hours are found on its website.

Online training is an option, and the staff of the Eisenhower Library's GIS and Data Services Department are also available for support.

Note that ArcGIS licensing is for use in the United States only.
